2. Hold Me Down

Preacher pulled up to the house

said Daddy’d passed away

Mama ran to the backyard

where us children used to play

The swing set he had built us

had lasted many years

Mama held it tightly

Then slowly came the tears

Hold me Down

Hold me Down

Hold me Down

(repeat)

I had just returned from

a stint on foreign shore

Where death was all around me

it was a soldier’s norm

But nothin’ could prepare me

for coming home that year

So I quit the service, I bought a boat

I docked in a Rockport pier

Hold me Down

Hold me Down

Hold me Down

(repeat)

Those places in my memories

they slowly fade away

Sometimes the family visits me

when I drift back in the bay

Their faces all surround me

but I don’t have much to say

I finally got married

took Jenny as my bride

We moved into the old house

where mama had died

Now I sit and watch our children

as they play in the backyard

Where daddy built our swing set

and mama cried so hard

Hold me Down

Hold me Down

Hold me Down

Well, new places and new memories are building every day

But sometimes I still find myself staring at the bay

Then mama brings me back and we’ll watch those children play

At night the Gulf breeze calls me

to shake my blues away

But mama and the children

are all I need today

We’re gonna throw a party

in that old backyard

Where daddy built our swing set

and mama cried so hard

Hold me Down

Hold me Down

Hold me Down

3. Gone, Gone, Gone

You said I was your lover, you said there was no other

Still you’re gone, gone, gone

Til death do us part, from the bottom of your heart

But yer gone, gone, gone

I thought you was my woman, then you started roamin’

I should have known all along

You said I was your lover, you said there was no other

Still you’re gone, gone, gone

You said you’d always be there, but I don’t see you anywhere

But, no yer gone, gone, gone

I just found a note, said that’s all she wrote

And you’re gone, gone, gone

I thought you was my woman, then you started roamin’

I should have known all along

You said I was your lover, you said there was no other

Still you’re gone, gone, gone

You said I was your lover, you said there was no other

Still you’re gone, gone, gone

Til death do us part, from the bottom of your heart

But, yer gone, gone, gone

I thought you was my woman, then you started roamin’

I should have known all along

You said I was your lover, you said there was no other

Still you’re gone, gone, gone

Well, you’re gone, gone gone

Yeah, you're gone, gone, gone

4. Old Blue

I’ve been waiting for the moment

That all our dreams would come true

C’mon girl let’s hit the road together

Pack your things and jump in old blue

San Antone is mighty lonely

Now that it's just us two

I’ll call my friends in Arizona

Try to find some work that I can do

Memories can’t hold me

When I’m with you

So tell your friends you’ll see them later

and jump in old blue

With the blinding sun right before us

I’ll grab your hand and drive on thru

It’ll burn away our pain and sorrow

We’ll be born again in the morning dew

We’ll find a home in Green Lee County

And another highchair in a year or two

Under a dusty cover in the driveway

That’s where you’ll find old blue

Memories can’t hold me

When I’m with you

So pack your bags for Arizona

So pack your bags for Arizona

And jump in old blue

If that don't pan out we'll head for Houston

My brother still lives down there

The family will be glad to see us

Blood always helps when your in despair

Memories can’t hold me

When I’m with you

So pack your dreams for Arizona

pack your dreams for Arizona

pack your dreams for Arizona

And jump in old blue
